Last week saw the latest Google Algorithm change and its caused a lot of consternation across the globe. You can read lots about it here in an excellent article written by the fantastic Vanessa Fox of Google.
Things first came to the surface through the now famous JC Penny case, where Google were tipped off to the fact that JC Penny performed pretty well for lots of things but had managed to do this by getting thousands of links but from completely unrelated websites.
Links are good, but you need to make that they’re from sites that have some sort of relationship to yours, i.e. are in the same industry, vertical etc.
One of the key changes that the algorithm addresses is content from so called content farms that is of low quality and value. There are many many sites out there that just add content scraped from lots of different sources because Google likes a website to be updated often, but now it realises that this just encouraged web owners to get content from anywhere, even if it’s already published on many other sites.
The answer? Read Vanessa’s article, but in short produce original content regularly. Take this post for example, it talks about the new algorithm changes and many other people have done that but I’m putting my own slant on it and writing this with my own fair hands! Hopefully I’m adding value because lots of you won’t know Vanessa but now (and if you have any sense) you’ll read her post and follow her regularly which in turn will be adding value to your business and your life.
